The Reading Fightin Phils were topped 6-3 by the Erie SeaWolves. Reading took an early lead but Somerset led from the bottom of the second on.
The Fightins knocked the first run across from the plate in the second as Jonathan Guzman doubled home Kevin Vicuna.
Erie put up a three spot in the bottom half on two hits and two walks.
They tacked on another one in the fourth as Parker Meadow’s sent in Luis Carpio to make it 4-1.
Simon Muzziotti smacked a solo shot to the deepest part of the ballpark and cut Erie’s lead in half.
In the sixth the R-Phils got within one run of the SeaWolves. Vicuna doubled to bring Ortiz home and Reading trailed 4-3.
Erie matched it and then some in the bottom half. Carpio, after a leadoff double, came home on a groundout and a solo shot from Meadows, his fourth hit of the game, made it 6-3.
The Fightins had the bases loaded in the top of the ninth but couldn’t push a run across.
Carlo Reyes got the spot start throwing an inning and two thirds. He allowed three runs on three hits and two walks. When he exited in the second, he left two runners on.
Matt Seelinger came into finish the second, letting both inherited runners cross. He threw a scoreless third.
Erik Miller had one inning of work that included one run on two hits and a walk.
Jack Perkins got the next three. The righty had bookend clean frames but the middle one caused some issue. Two runs scored on three hits, including a solo homer.
Francisco Morales struck out the side int he bottom of the eighth on 10 pitches. He was one ball away from an immaculate inning.
