First place Wind Surge win sixth straight

WICHITA, KS - Michael Helman and Willie Joe Garry Jr. hit a few bombs, and Reggie Grace was excellent starting on the mound for the Wind Surge. Their performances helped push the first place Wind Surge over the San Antonio Missions 5-2 in game one of the six game home

WICHITA, KS - Michael Helman and Willie Joe Garry Jr. hit a few bombs, and Reggie Grace was excellent starting on the mound for the Wind Surge. Their performances helped push the first place Wind Surge over the San Antonio Missions 5-2 in game one of the six game home series.

Wichita put three runs on the board in the bottom of the third. All three runs were off a three-run home run hit by Helman.

San Antonio drove in a run in the top of the fourth. Nathan Martorella hit an RBI double on a line drive to right field that bounced off the wall.

Garry Jr. hit his third home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth. The solo home run flew over the right field wall and extended the Surge lead back out to three.

Ethan Salas hit an RBI single on a line drive to center field in the top of the seventh inning for the Missions.

Wichita earned a late insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. Patrick Winkel hit a sacrifice fly that drove in a run after Yoyner Fajardo was able to reach third by a stolen base and a throwing error.

Regi Grace made his first start of the season on the mound for the Wichita Wind Surge. He pitched three and two thirds innings where he only gave up one run off one hit. He struck out four batters and walked one other batter. Jordan Carr earned the win, and his record improves to (1-0).

The San Antonio Missions starting pitcher Gabe Mosser pitched six innings. He gave up four runs off four hits. He also struck out four batters and walked two more. He was credited with the loss, and his record falls to (0-3).

The Wichita Wind Surge have won 13 of their last 15 games and improve to (30-22, 58-62) and the San Antonio Missions fall to (25-27, 62-59).

NOTES: The Wind Surge improve to a league best 19-6 in the month of August. David Festa was promoted to St. Paul. The Wind Surge added pitcher Jordan Carr from Cedar Rapids, Sean Mooney from the injured list and Michael Helman from St. Paul. Ernie Yake and Issac Mattson were place on the Surge development roster.
