Fisher Cats hit four dingers in fourth loss to Erie

Erie, P.A. – The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (16-21) lost, 8-5, to the Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers, 21-17) on Saturday night in their fourth-straight defeat. Erie locked up a series win, and New Hampshire now has their longest losing streak of the season.

The Fisher Cats hit four home runs in the game, including the two in the ninth inning. Saturday marked just the second time all year that New Hampshire lost when hitting three or more homers in a game.

Sebastian Espino crushed his seventh homer of the season to left-center in the third inning to even the score at 1-1. The bomb was Espino’s first hit of the Erie series. He had three homers last week versus Binghamton.

Spencer Horwitz also left the yard in the seventh inning with a blast over the right field wall.

No. 11 Blue Jays prospect Adam Kloffenstein motored through his first three innings of Double-A action. He retired the first nine batters he faced and struck out four, including three in the fifth inning. Erie tagged him for four runs in the eighth inning, though, and stretched their lead to 8-2. Kloffenstein was promoted from Class A Advanced Vancouver today.

Sean Mellen came in to finish out the eighth with two quick outs. The lefty has allowed one earned run over his last six innings of work across five appearances.

New Hampshire scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning, just as they did in their 8-7 loss last night. Orelvis Martinez hit his 12th homer of the season, and Will Robertson added his fourth big fly.

Erie tagged Fisher Cats starter Hayden Juenger (L, 0-2) with four runs on four hits in 4.0 innings of work. He walked one and struck out five. Juenger threw a season-high 73 pitches, 51 of them for strikes.

The Fisher Cats conclude their six-game road series against the Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers) tomorrow, May 22 at 1:35 p.m. New Hampshire returns home on Tuesday, May 31 versus the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox).
