Fisher Cats outlast SeaWolves in wacky, 11-inning game

Erie, P.A. – The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (17-21) snapped a four-game skid with an 11-inning win, 7-3, over the Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers, 21-18) on Sunday afternoon. The game was the longest of the season for New Hampshire and their second extra-innings win.

Tanner Morris and Rafael Lantigua each drove in two runs with two outs in the top of the 11th. Morris had a 3-2 count with the bases loaded when he roped a single to right field to score a pair. One batter later, Lantigua doubled to deep left field to bring in two more. Morris now has an eight-game hit streak, and Lantigua is tied for the Eastern League lead in doubles with 12.

Erie put catcher Jon Rosoff (L, 0-1) on the mound for the 11th inning. He was the SeaWolves’ seventh reliever of the game.

Trent Palmer impressed in his first start at the Double-A level. He threw 5.0 innings and allowed just one run that scored on a wild pitch. Palmer gave up three hits, walked two and struck out six. He was promoted from Class A Advanced Vancouver yesterday.

New Hampshire got the scoring going in the third with four singles. Morris and Orelvis Martinez hit sharp line drives off Erie starter Adam Wolf to put runners on first and second. Luis De Los Santos and John Aiello brought them home with RBI base knocks. Aiello has hits in five of his last six games.

With the game tied, 2-2, after nine innings, De Los Santos drove in Lantigua in the top of the 10th. He drove in multiple runs for the fifth time this season.

Erie added a run in the bottom half off Parker Caracci (W, 1-2) to force the 11th. Caracci earned his first win of the season.

Jake Elliott pitched scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth, allowing no hits and striking out four.

The Fisher Cats are off tomorrow as they get settled in Akron, Ohio. They begin a six-game series with the Akron RubberDucks (Cleveland Guardians) on Tuesday, May 24 at 11:05 a.m. Akron is in first place in the Eastern League Southwest division at 23-16. They have won 12 of their last 15 games.
