The Somerset Patriots defeated the Hartford Yard Goats by a score of 5-2 on Saturday night at Dunkin’ Park in Hartford, Connecticut.
The win moves Somerset to a season-best 11 games over .500 with a record of 33-22. The Patriots are now a half-game behind first place Portland with 13 games left to be played in the first half.
Somerset’s fourth win of the series also secures back-to-back series wins for the Patriots for the second time this season (4/25-29 @HBG and 5/2-7 vs. BNG).
During this week’s series, the Patriots’ pitching staff has struck out double digit batters in all five games, totaling 59 strikeouts in the five games.
RHP Richard Fitts(8.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 10 K, 1 HR) earned his third win of the season in the longest start of the season by any member of the Patriots’ pitching staff.

Fitts’ 8.0 IP matched his career-best mark from August 27, 2022 vs. Hickory, when he was pitching for High-A Hudson Valley.
The 8.0 IP also tied for the most of any Patriots starter since becoming affiliated with the Yankees (Matt Sauer, August 25, 2022).
Fitts’ 10 strikeouts matched his career-best mark set earlier this season on April 12, 2023 vs. Binghamton. Fitts becomes the third Patriots starter this week to set or match his career-high number of strikeouts (Clayton Beeter, 11 and Blane Abeyta, 11). All five Patriots starters set or matched season-highs in strikeouts.
DH Anthony Seigler (1-for-4, 2 RBI, R, HR, 2 K) clubbed his first Double-A home run in the fourth inning. With Seigler’s home run, now every active member of the Patriots has homered this season.
1B T.J. Rumfield (1-for-4, 2 RBI, R, HR, K) hit his third home run of the series and his ninth of the season.
