CLINTON, IA (May 28, 2017) - The Clinton LumberKings scored early and often in a 9-2 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday afternoon at Ashford University Field. The LumberKings were lead offensively by Rayder Ascanio and Bryson Brigman who each homered and drove in three runs.
The LumberKings scored quickly off Timber Rattlers starter Miguel Sanchez pushing a run across in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by Bryson Brigman. Brigman stood out for Clinton going 2-for-5 with a run scored, three RBI, a double, and a home run.
In the bottom of the second inning, the LumberKings offense broke out for five runs against Sanchez (2-1). Luis Rengifo began the rally with a double and scored two batters later on a Kristian Brito RBI single to left. Luis Liberato hit his team leading sixth triple of the season to score Brito for the second run of the inning. Rayder Ascanio followed with a walk and after stealing second base saw Liberato score when the ball trickled into center field. Brigman capped the rally with his first professional career home run to score Ascanio.
Ascanio went 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored, two stolen bases, a home run, and three RBI.
The LumberKings added two more runs in the fourth on Ascanio's team leading fifth home run of the season and tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Ascanio singled home Brito for the ninth run of the game.
Robert Dugger made his first start of the season for Clinton and pitched well in his three inning outing. He did not allow a run while striking out five and walking none.
Danny Garcia followed Dugger and earned his fourth win of the season with four innings of work allowing one unearned run on three hits while walking two and striking out one.
Wisconsin avoided the shutout with a run in the top of the seventh inning. Garcia (4-4) in his fourth inning of work was let down by his defense that allowed Demi Orimoloye to reach on an error and scored two batters later on a Ronnie Gideon RBI double.
The Timmber Rattlers scored once more in the top of the ninth. Steven Moyers allowed the first three men to reach in the inning, loading the bases, but then limited the damage to a single run when he retired the next two batters. Joantgel Segovia grounded into a game ending double play.
