SALEM, Va. (April 29, 2018) - A four-run fourth inning and strong pitching from Matt Swarmer and Bailey Clark Sunday led the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to a 5-3 win and series victory over the Salem Red Sox from Haley Toyota Field.
In a scoreless game, Vimael Machin and Jhonny Pereda began the fourth inning with base hits. Wladimir Galindo served an RBI double to right against Salem (14-10) starter Hildemaro Requena (0-1). Tyler Alamo followed with an RBI single before Kevonte Mitchell launched a sacrifice fly to put the Pelicans (9-15) ahead 3-0. Two batters later, a Red Sox error plated Alamo to widen the gap to 4-0.

Austin Upshaw began the fifth inning with a single. After a pop out, Pereda smashed an RBI triple to make it 5-0 Myrtle Beach.
That was all the offense the Pelicans' staff would need. Swarmer (2-2) yielded one run on five hits in five innings, striking out five against two walks to earn the win. In his High-A debut, Clark recorded four strikeouts in three scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Jhon Romero got the final three outs to seal the win.
With the Birds ahead 5-0 in the fifth, Roldani Baldwin's RBI single with two outs got the Red Sox on the board. A Tyler Hill RBI double and Baldwin RBI single with two outs in the ninth brought the tying run to the plate, but Romero struck out Bobby Dalbec to end the ballgame.
