Four-Run Seventh Too Much For Pigs, Fall 7-3

Logan Moore hit a two-run home run, but the Syracuse Chiefs (52-83) plated four runs in the seventh and Neftali Soto hit two, two-run home runs, defeating the IronPigs (74-61) by the score of 7-3 at NBT Bank Stadium.

The Chiefs used a four-run seventh inning, highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Neftali Soto and Matt Skole.
After Bengie Gonzales scored came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Snyder. Irving Falu sent a one-out single to right, and advanced to second on a fielding error by Cameron Perkins. Soto hit his second two-run homer of the game, with a homer to left field off Casey Fien. Matt Skole followed Soto with a solo shot, as the duo went back-to-back to up the Chiefs lead to 7-1 lead.
The Pigs did make a comeback effort in the top of the eighth inning, as Logan Moore launched a two-run homer to right field to trim the Chiefs lead to 7-3.
Unfortunately for the Pigs, they would go in order in the top of the ninth. Herlis Rodriguez struck out to open the frame, and Scott Kingery would single up the middle to give the Pigs a base runner. J.P. Crawford then bounced into an game-ending 4-6-3 double play.
Kingery came around to give the Pigs an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, as the 23-year-old scored after being hit by a pitch. Perkins then hit a double off the left field wall to give the Pigs the lead.
The lead could have increased, as the Pigs loaded the bases with no outs in the frame. Chiefs starter Erlis Rogers then struck out the side, limiting the Pigs to just one run.
Soto struck with his first two-run shot in the bottom half of the first inning, giving the Chiefs a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish.
Pigs starter Joey DeNato tossed three innings in a spot start, surrendering two runs on four hits while striking out a pair. He was tabbed with his first Triple-A loss.
With the loss, the Pigs elimination number for playoff contention falls to five games.
The series continues with game two of the four-game set Tuesday night NBT Bank Stadium. The Pigs will send right-hander Jake Thompson (5-13, 5.34), and the Chiefs will send right-hander John Simms (1-4, 6.82). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
