Four-Run Sixth Dooms Pigs

The Syracuse Chiefs (31-52) used a four-run sixth inning to defeat he IronPigs (53-33) Wednesday night 10-6 at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse, NY.

The Pigs fell behind early, as starter Mark Appel threw 52 pitches in the opening frame, surrendering four runs as the Chiefs took the early lead.
Chris Heisey started off the scoring for Syracuse as he doubled home Andrew Stevenson to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Neftali Soto then sent a RBI single to center, scoring Heisey before Alejandro De Aza doubled home Soto to take a 3-0 lead. Appel then walked his counter part Jacob Turner with the bases loaded to cap off the Chiefs four-run inning.
Appel's night was done after just recoriding two outs in the opening frame before giving way to Mark Peterson out of the Pig 'Pen. Peterson then got out of the first inning before surrendering two runs in the top of the second.
Heisey then struck again as he launched a two-run home run in the top of the second, plating Irving Falu to give the Chiefs a commanding 6-0 lead.
Peterson tossed three 1/3 innings, surrendering just the two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out two.
The Pigs came roaring back to tie the game at 6 in the top of the third, as they started their scoring with a bases loaded balk with Dylan Cozens batting. Scott Kingery would score on the balk, and Cozens would then single to right, plating J.P. Crawford and the Pigs trailed 6-2. Héctor Gómez then roped a two-run double to left, scoring Rhys Hoskins and Cozens to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Logan Moore then launched his fourth homer of the season to right-center field, a two-run bomb plating himself and Gomez to nod the score at 6 after three.
After surrendering the two runs in the bottom of the second, Peterson settled into a groove and tossed two scoreless innings before giving way to Colton Murray.
Murray pitched an inning 1/3 as he surrendered a four-run sixth inning which would prove to be the difference in the contest.
Murray began by surrendering a three-run home run to De Aza, before issuing a bases loaded walk to Andrew Stevenson as the Chiefs took a 10-6 advantage.
The Pigs then went in order in the final three innings of the contest, dropping just their first road contest this season at NBT Bank Stadium after winning the previous four matchups.
The series continues with the rubber match of the three-game series against the Syracuse Chiefs Thursday night at NBT Bank Stadium. The Pigs will send right-hander Jake Thompson (3-9, 5.97) and the Chiefs will send right-hander Edwin Jackson (1-0, 1.93). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
