JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Southern League announced that four Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp players have been named to the league's South Division All-Star roster for the 2019 Southern League All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 18, at MGM Park in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Outfielder Brian Miller, infielder Justin Twine, and right-handed pitchers Robert Dugger and Cody Poteet will represent Jacksonville as South Division All-Stars.
Brian Miller is hitting .291 with a home run and 25 runs batted in playing in 54 games for the Jumbo Shrimp this season. Miller leads Jacksonville and is fourth in the league with 58 hits, and is eighth in the league with 199 at-bats. Miller is currently in a 16-game hitting streak, the longest hitting streak in all of Double-A baseball in 2019. During this streak, Miller is hitting .394 (26-for-66) with three doubles, one triple, and nine runs batted in. Miller, 23, is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina, and was selected by the Marlins in the first round (36th overall) of the 2017 draft out of the University of North Carolina. Miller is regarded by MLB Pipeline as the Marlins No. 14 prospect. Miller has previously been named a 2018 Florida State League Midseason All-Star after hitting .324 with High-A Jupiter last season.
Justin Twine is hitting .246 with a home run and 21 RBI playing in 52 games for the Jumbo Shrimp this season. Twine enjoyed a standout month of April with Jacksonville, hitting .299 with 11 RBI during the season's first month. Twine, 23, is a native of Falls City, Texas, ans was selected by the Marlins in the second round of the 2014 draft out of Falls City High School. This is the first All-Star honor of Twine's career.
Right-handed pitcher Robert Dugger is 6-5 with a 3.29 ERA in 12 starts for the Jumbo Shrimp in 2019. Dugger is third in the Southern League with 68 strikeouts, is tied for second in the league with six wins, and is second in the league with 65 and two-third innings pitched. He also has the eight-lowest WHIP of any Southern League pitcher at 1.07, and the ninth-lowest batting average against of any Southern League pitcher of .213. Dugger, 23, is a native of Tomball, Texas, and was acquired by the Marlins in the Dee Gordon trade in December 2017. Dugger is regarded by MLB Pipleine as the Marlins No. 22 prospect. This is the third straight season that Dugger has earned All-Star honors, after being a 2017 Midwest League Midseason All-Star with the Single-A Clinton Lumberkings and a 2018 Florida State League Midseason All-Star with the High-A Jupiter Hammerheads.
Right-handed pitcher Cody Poteet is 3-3 with a 2.67 ERA in his 10 starts for the Jumbo Shrimp in 2019. Poteet has the 10th lowest WHIP among Southern League pitchers at 1.10, and is tied for eighth in the league with 60 and two-third innings pitched. Poteet, 24, is a native of San Diego, California, and was originally selected by the Marlins in the fourth round of the 2015 draft out of UCLA. Poteet was previously honored as an All-Star in 2017 when he was a Florida State League Midseason All-Star with the High-A Jupiter Hammerheads.
The players were selected by a vote of Southern League field managers, radio broadcasters, general managers and print media. The 2019 All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, June 18, at MGM Park, home of the Biloxi Shuckers, at 7:35 p.m. ET. The starting lineups for the North and South Division squads will be announced by the league next week, with possible Jumbo Shrimp starters for the South Division announced on Tuesday, June 11.
Tonight the Jumbo Shrimp and Blue Wahoos will play a doubleheader, with the clubs playing two seven inning games on Thursday, with first pitch of game one starting at 5 p.m. eastern (4 p.m. local time in Pensacola). There will be a 30-minute intermission in between games one and two of the doubleheader.
