Delmarva's Late Rally Falls Short
SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (2-15) were held scoreless by the Fredericksburg Nationals (12-6) for the third straight game by a final of 2-0.
Pitching was the night's story for both sides as Blake Money tossed four scoreless as the starter for Delmarva with his counterpart, Jose Atencio, throwing five shutout innings.
Ty Weatherly entered for Delmarva in the sixth and continued the trend of his starter by holding the Nationals to no runs in his first three frames.
However, the Nationals would manufacture a run in the eighth, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Phillip Glasser would score the lead run on a double play grounder to second, giving Fredericksburg a 1-0 advantage.
The Fred Nats grabbed an insurance run in the ninth as Brandon Pimentel plated Gavin Dugas with a sacrifice fly to stretch the lead to 2-0.
The Shorebirds wouldn't go down without a fight as a single by Anderson De Los Santos and a double by Stiven Acevedo put runners at second and third with two outs. Samuel Vasquez would get Doug Hodo to fly out to end the game, securing Fredericksburg's third shutout victory in a row, by a score of 2-0.
Bubba Hall (2-0) earned the win in relief with Ty Weatherly (0-2) taking the loss for the Shorebirds. Samuel Vasquez (1) was awarded the save.
A pair of prospects duel on the mound on Friday as Luis De León draws the start for Delmarva versus Jarlin Susana for Fredericksburg. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
