Fresno, California (Thursday, August 8) - The Nashville Sounds (49-65) beat the Fresno Grizzlies (54-62) 8-6 from Chukchansi Park Thursday evening. Despite allowing five runs in the eighth, Nashville scored two in the ninth to hold on for the win. David Carpenter (2-0) earned the victory while Dakota Bacus (4-5) suffered the defeat. Phillips Valdez notched his first save as the Sounds will look for the series sweep tomorrow.
Fresno tallied 14 hits with four players mustering multi-knock affairs. Drew Ward led the offense with three hits, his second time reaching that feat since his promotion to Triple-A. Carter Kieboom had two extra-base hits, which included his 16th homer of the season. Kieboom has reached base safely in 28 of his last 30 contests. Alec Keller and José Marmolejos added a pair of hits as well for the Grizzlies. Keller has been on base eight times in the series (six hits, two walks).
Nashville starter Brock Burke hurled five innings of one-run ball in his Triple-A debut. The lefty struck out eight in a no-decision effort. Patrick Wisdom helped the cause early with his third homer in two nights. He has 23 clouts on the year. Zack Granite, Andy Ibáñez and Ronald Guzmán propelled the top of the Sounds lineup with five hits, two RBI and six runs. The trio also walked four times in the win.
