Galindo, Alamo power Pelicans to series split

KINSTON, N.C. (April 15, 2018) - Both Tyler Alamo and Wladimir Galindo homered and drove in three runs Sunday to lead the Myrtle Beach Pelicans to a 9-4 victory and series split with the Down East Wood Ducks at Grainger Stadium.
Myrtle Beach (3-8) got the scoring going in their opening at-bats. D.J. Wilson , playing in his first game in six days due to an illness, singled and P.J. Higgins walked against Down East (5-6) starter Walker Weickel (0-2) to begin the game. Vimael Machin , who reached base multiple times for the fourth game in a row, doubled in Wilson to get the Birds on the board. Galindo then struck out on a pitch in the dirt, but on Wood Ducks catcher Alex Kowalczyk's throw to first, Higgins sprinted in to score the game's second run. After an Alamo strikeout, Chris Pieters , who reached base four times, laid down a bunt single to plate Machin and make it 3-0.

Pelicans starter Alex Lange walked LeDarious Clark to start the bottom of the first inning. A wild pitch advanced Clark to second, and with two outs, Kowalczyk cashed him in with an RBI single. Lange wound up working four innings, ceding two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
In the third, Machin walked with one out. Galindo then blasted a two-run home run to the opposite field to put Myrtle Beach ahead 5-1.
Again, the Wood Ducks had an immediate answer. Clark doubled to jumpstart the third and Kowalczyk walked with two outs. Chuck LeBlanc followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 5-2.
The Birds responded immediately in the fourth. Wilson walked and stole second with one out. Two batters later, Machin earned another free pass to put runners on second and third. Galindo looped an RBI single to right and then Alamo socked a three-run dinger to left to widen the gap to 9-2.
An Anderson Tejeda RBI double in the seventh proved to be the only damage against Myrtle Beach reliever Tyler Peyton (1-0), who pitched three innings of one-run ball out of the bullpen to earn the win. Peyton scattered three hits and a walk and whiffed three.
Tejeda drew a bases-loaded walk off reliever Jhon Romero in the eighth to bring the tally to 9-4, but Down East could get no closer. Romero fanned five in his two innings of work to seal the victory.
Following their series split with Down East, the Pelicans begin a three-game series with Monday's 7 p.m. contest at Buies Creek. RHP Matt Swarmer (0-1, 3.86 ERA) pitches for the Pelicans against Astros RHP Abdiel Saldana (1-0, 0.00 ERA).
