WORCESTER, M.A. — The Rochester Red Wings (53-64) held on to take the series finale over the Worcester Red Sox (59-58) on Sunday afternoon, a 3-2 final in front of 7,611 at Polar Park.
WooSox starter Brian Keller turned in his third quality start over his last four outings, tossing six innings of three-run ball. The right-hander made one mistake, a three-run home run to right from Andrew Stevenson in the third.
Worcester’s bullpen was sterling again, allowing just a single Rochester baserunner over the final three innings. A.J. Politi, Frank German and Kaleb Ort all tossed runless frames, capping off a week in which WooSox relievers posted a 1.47 ERA (5 ER in 30.2 IP).
Offensively, Rochester starter Daniel Ponce De Leon held the WooSox hitless over five innings. He departed, and the home team immediately took advantage—Abraham Almonte led off the sixth with a double, Worcester’s first hit. Two batters later, Ronaldo Hernandez clubbed a two-run homer to left to make it 3-2.
