The Sea Unicorns grabbed an early lead as Tyler Wells (Danville, VT/University of New Haven) ripped a two-run triple that scored Hunter Yaworski (Brooklyn, CT/Mitchell College) and Josh Taylor (Newtown, CT/Central Connecticut State University).
Brockton exploded for four runs in the second, followed by seven more in the third for an 11-2 lead after three. Korey Morton (Norwalk, CT/University of Connecticut) sparked the Sea Unicorns comeback attempt, cranking a pair of two-run home runs on the night. His first homerun led a five-run fifth, followed by a Wells line-drive double down the right-field line, a T.J. Keefe (Weymouth, MA/Pace University) RBI single to center, and a run-scoring error to cut the Norwich deficit to 12-8.
Morton crushed another Dodd dinger over the left-field wall. Michael Torniero (East Haven, CT/Central Connecticut State University) led off with a bunt single to bring the Sea Unicorns within three.Keefe and Yaworski each had three hits on the evening, with Yaworksi scoring three runs. Torniero, Morton, and Wells each had two hits on the night. Morton finished with four RBI’s and two runs, while Wells drove in two and scored one.
The Sea Unicorns host the Nashua Silver Knights Saturday 7/31 at 6:00 p.m. The game will serve as “First Responders Night” with $2 tickets for all first responders with a valid employee I.D.
