Sea Unicorns Shutout In-State Rival Bees In 1-0 Pitchers Duel At Dodd Stadium

(Norwich, CT) -- The Norwich Sea Unicorns take down in-state rival New Britain Bees 1-0 at Dodd Stadium on Saturday night.

The Sea Unicorn’s pitching shined against the Bees as Jimmy Wang (Beijing, CN/University of Connecticut) started the game for Norwich allowing zero runs, zero hits while striking out five batters. Winning pitcher Jordan Marot (Johnston, RI/Franklin Pierce University) came out of the bullpen carving as he went four strong innings not allowing a run while striking out six Bees batters. Ray Seward (Clinton, CT/Franklin Pierce University) struck out the side in the eighth. Eddie Kaftan (Old Lyme, CT/Mitchell College) came in to close the game out for the Sea Unicorns striking out two batters.

The Sea Unicorns took the lead in the seventh during this pitchers duel as Gianni Zarrilli (Wethersfield, CT/UMass - Boston) lined a single into left field that scored Ian Battipaglia (Chesire, CT/Franklin Pierce University) giving Norwich a 1-0 lead late in the game. T.J. Keefe (Weymouth, MA/Pace University) had two base hits on the night. Zarrilli, Michael Torniero (East Haven, CT/Central Connecticut State University) and Korey Morton (Norwalk, CT/University of Connecticut) each had a base knock on the night.

The Sea Unicorns go on the road tomorrow 8/8 to take on the New Britain Bees for a 1:35 p.m. start time. The Sea Unicorns return home, Thursday 8/12 for the final game of the season against the Westfield Starfires for a double-header starting at 4:00 p.m. It will be the final Thirsty Thursday of the season on 8/12 where there will be $2 Sam Adams drafts and $1 Bud and Bud Light drafts.
