Pigs kick off homestand in grand fashion
Roman Quinn's grand slam and Cole Irvin's six shutout innings propelled the Lehigh Valley IronPigs to a 6-1 victory over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park.
The IronPigs got off to a quick start in the opener of a six-game homestand, plating five second-inning runs against RailRiders starter Nestor Cortes (0-1). The Pigs loaded the bases with no outs before
Quinn's home run was his first since last May. He extended his hitting streak to five games, going 2-for-4 with 4 RBI.
Making his second start against the RailRiders, Irvin limited the visitors to six hits, allowing multiple base runners in just one inning. Irvin struck out three and walked one. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the sixth to preserve a six-run lead as he exited the game.
Game 2 between the IronPigs and RailRiders is Saturday at 6:35 p.m.
