Pigs kick off homestand in grand fashion

Roman Quinn's grand slam and Cole Irvin's six shutout innings propelled the Lehigh Valley IronPigs to a 6-1 victory over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Friday night at Coca-Cola Park.

The IronPigs got off to a quick start in the opener of a six-game homestand, plating five second-inning runs against RailRiders starter Nestor Cortes (0-1). The Pigs loaded the bases with no outs before Dean Anna drew a two-out walk to plate the first run. Quinn followed with his opposite-field blast and that was all the run support Irvin (1-1) needed to secure his first Triple-A victory
Quinn's home run was his first since last May. He extended his hitting streak to five games, going 2-for-4 with 4 RBI.
Making his second start against the RailRiders, Irvin limited the visitors to six hits, allowing multiple base runners in just one inning. Irvin struck out three and walked one. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the sixth to preserve a six-run lead as he exited the game.

Austin Davis, Hoby Milner and Zac Curtis finished out the ballgame for the Pigs. The bullpen allowed one run on two hits and struck out five RailRiders.
Game 2 between the IronPigs and RailRiders is Saturday at 6:35 p.m. Enyel De Los Santos will take the ball for the Pigs making his second career start against the RailRiders. It will be Game of Thrones Night at Coca-Cola Park with 3,000 fans 18 and older receiving a Scott Kingery Game of Thrones-themed bobblehead.
