Lookouts exploit Barons error
Hanigan and Votto singled with one out against reliever Ehren Wassermann (6-2). Noochie Varner walked to load the bases before Miguel Perez hit a comebacker to Wasserman, who threw wildly while attempting to start a double play.
Birmingham took the lead with three runs in the top of the inning off reliever Calvin Medlock. Micah Schnurstein singled home Cory Aldridge and later scored the go-ahead on a groundout by Christopher Getz. Ricardo Nanita drove in the tying run with a single to score Thomas Collaro.
Medlock (6-2) picked up the win despite giving up three runs on four hits in his only inning of work. Chattanooga starter Camilo Vazquez gave up three runs on five hits in six innings, striking out six and walking one.
Varner went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Lookouts. Votto was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Miguel Perez finished 3-for-5 with an RBI. All but one Chattanooga starter had at least one hit in the 12-hit attack.
Collaro was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the fourth that tied the score, 3-3. Schnurstein and Pedro Lopez had two hits apiece for the Barons. --Tim Leonard/MLB.com
