Bisons' Mastny promoted to Tribe

Indians promote Buffalo reliever, option Mujica to Bisons

The Cleveland Indians announced Monday that they have purchased the contract of pitcher Tom Mastny. To make room on their roster, pitcher Edward Mujica was optioned to the Bisons.

This is Mastny's first Major League stint.

Mastny, 25, has been a key component of the Bisons bullpen since being promoted from Double-A Akron on May 17. In 24 games with the Herd, he is 2-1 with a 2.61 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 38.0 innings of work (25 H, 11 R, 11 ER). He did not allow a home run, and limited International League hitters to a .184 (25-for-136) batting average. Prior to joining the Herd, Mastny was 0-1 with a 1.09 ERA and one save in 12 relief outings (24.2 IP, 15 H, 3 ER, 30 K) with Double-A Akron.

Mujica, 22, is returning to the Herd after his first stint in the Major Leagues. From June 20-July 23, he was 0-1 with a 2.63 ERA in six relief outings for the Indians (13.2 IP, 19 H, 4 R/1 ER). Prior to that, Mujica did not allow an earned run over 24 appearances with the Bisons and Akron (25 H, 2 R/0 ER, 35 K). He went 1-0 with eight saves and an 0.00 ERA with the Aeros (19 IP, 11 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 9 BB, 17 K) before being promoted to Buffalo on May 14. With the Bisons, he was 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in the first 12 outings of his Triple-A career. (19.2 IP, 14 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 18 K).
