D-backs' third-round pick Railey suspended
Matt Railey, the D-backs' third-round pick in last year's Draft, was suspended for 50 games Monday after testing positive for a banned substance.
The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball said Railey received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for an amphetamine, a stimulant in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
As a high school senior, the Florida native hit .407 (35-for-86) with four home runs and 10 doubles.
"[He] gives us a chance to add a left-handed bat with kind of a hit-speed combo," D-backs scouting director Ray Montgomery said of Railey on Day 2 of last year's Draft.
Major League Baseball has suspended 39 players this year for violating the Minor League drug program.
