Colin Rea named Texas League Pitcher of the Week

San Antonio -The San Antonio Missions are proud to announce that right-hander Colin Rea was named Texas League Pitcher of the Week for April 27-May 3.

In two starts this past week, Rea went 1-0 with a 1.20 ERA, while sporting an impressive K:BB ratio of 18:2 over 15 innings. For the week, Rea was 1st in the TL in both strikeouts and innings pitched, 4th in ERA and 5th in WHIP at 0.73.

The Cascade, IA native settled for a no-decision in his first outing of the week on April 27 vs. Frisco after allowing just two earned runs on eight hits and one walk, while fanning six over seven innings.

Last Saturday vs. Midland, Rea earned his first Double-A victory after a dominant performance in which he allowed just one hit and one walk, while striking out a career-high 12 batters over a career-high eight shutout innings. 

In five starts this season, his first at the Double-A level, Rea is 1-1 with a minuscule 1.00 ERA and an incredible K:BB of 34:3 over 36 innings. Going into Monday, Rea was leading the TL in strikeouts, innings pitched, lowest BB-IBB/9 IP ratio at 0.75 and fewest baserunners/9 IP ratio at 6.75.

San Diego selected Rea in the 12th Round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Indiana State University. The 24-year-old hurler is next scheduled to take the hill Thursday night at Frisco.
