Fightins shutdown Erie for second straight game

Aaron Nola pitched six shutout innings for his fifth win

Aaron Nola (5-2) continued his dominance over the Erie SeaWolves (12-22) as he led the Fightin Phils (18-15) to a straight 2-0 win on Friday night. Nola now has only allowed one run against Erie in 14 innings pitched in two starts this season.

Cameron Perkins put the Fightin Phils on the board with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as he hit a RBI double off SeaWolves starter Chad Green. Brock Stassi gave Reading a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with a RBI single off Green. The Fightin Phils lineup recorded nine hits while Erie's lineup recorded seven hits.

Aaron Altherr extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a double in the fourth inning. Lee Ridenhour pitched a scoreless seventh inning while Anthony Vasquez earned his first save as a Fightin Phil. He pitched two innings in relief and struck out two batters while giving up just two hits.  

The Fightin Phils will play again on Saturday evening at FirstEnergy Stadium. First pitch is at 6:05 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 5:35 pm. Fans can also view the game on MiLB.tv beginning at 6:05 pm.
