June 16, 2015

ZEBULON, NC - The Carolina Mudcats, the Class A Advanced affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and member of the historic Carolina League, proudly announce today that outfielder Dustin Peterson has been added to the 2015 Carolina League All-Star team.

Peterson, 20, fills the All-Star spot vacated by Frederick Keys third baseman Drew Dosch after he was promoted to Double-A. Peterson now joins Carolina Mudcats teammate Johan Camargo on the 2015 Carolina League All-Star team.

Camargo, 21, was ranked by Baseball America as the 12th best prospect in the Atlanta Braves farm system entering the 2015 season. At the time of his selection Camargo was batting .280 with 45 hits, 10 doubles and two triples while primarily batting in the ninth spot of the Mudcats lineup.

At the time of his selection Peterson was ranked second in the Carolina League in batting average (.311), fourth in on-base percentage (.381) and fifth in slugging percentage (.466).

Peterson returned from a stint on the disabled list on June 2 and is batting .304 with 17 hits, three doubles, a triple, two home runs and nine RBI since being activated again. He was originally placed on the disabled list on May 13 following the bus accident on May 12. Peterson was batting .314 on the season before going on the disabled list. He was also batting a league best .442/.500/.538 between April 29 and May 11.

The Braves acquired Peterson in a trade with the San Diego Padres this past off-season. The trade involved Atlanta sending outfielder Justin Upton to the Padres in exchange for Peterson, LHP Max Fried, INF Jace Peterson and OF Mallex Smith.

Peterson was ranked as 18th best prospect by Baseball America (updated list) in Atlanta system before the season and following the trade. He was originally ranked at the 21st best prospect in Padres system by Baseball America. His older brother D.J. Peterson is currently a top prospect in the Seattle Mariners minor league system. Both Petersons were taken in the 2013 draft. Dustin was selected in the second round out of Gilbert High School in Arizona by San Diego and D.J. was selected in the first round out of the University of New Mexico by Seattle.
