Mesoraco, Klinker Lead Mudcats to Saturday Win over Suns
Jacksonville, Fla. - Matt Klinker allowed one run over seven innings while Devin Mesoraco was four-for-four with two RBI leading the Carolina Mudcats (52-66, 22-27) to a 6-1 win over the Jacksonville Suns (69-50, 29-20) in front of 5,317 Saturday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Klinker (6-6) gave up a third inning run with five hits and seven strikeouts over seven innings for the winning decision. Jose Rosario (3-3) took the losing decision, charged with two runs and five hits over five innings of work.
Carolina opened the early lead with a two-run first inning. Mike Costanzo hit a sacrifice fly to score Jake Kahaulelio for a 1-0 lead before a Devin Mesoraco triple plated Luis Terrero for a 2-0 score.
The Suns got on the board in the third inning when John Otness doubled, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a Lorenzo Scott sacrifice fly for a 2-1 score.
The Mudcats built the lead to 5-1 in the sixth inning against Jeff Gogal. Terrero led off the inning with his third home run of the season, before Mike Costanzo doubled and scored on a Devin Mesoraco double for a 4-1 score. Jose Castro later drove in Mesoraco with a sacrifice fly for the 5-1 lead.
Carolina added a final run in the eighth inning against Suns reliever Steven Cishek when Castro singled home Mesoraco with two out for a 6-1 score.
