Albaladejo breaks saves record as Yanks win 7-4
The Yankees held a 4-2 lead going into the seventh inning, where the team would look to put the game out of reach.
Eric Bruntlett started the inning by getting hit by a pitch and moved to second after Kevin Russo walked on five pitches. Greg Golson then sacrificed the runners up a base which allowed Bruntlett to score on a Jesus Montero sacrifice fly and give the Yankees a 5-3 lead.
With two outs in the inning, Juan Miranda sent the Yankees third homerun of the game over the right field wall for a two-run shot that put the team up 7-2 and, at the time, eliminated any chance of a save situation.
The Mud Hens would rally in the eighth, however, roughing up Yankees reliever Royce Ring for two runs.
Ring retired the first two batters of the inning but then gave up back-to-back hits and hit a batter to load the bases.
Eric Wordekemper relieved Ring and gave up a two run single to Scott Sizemore that moved the Mud Hens into striking distance at 7-4.
The late rally opened the door for a save situation and for Albaladejo, who entered the game tied with Matt Whiteside for the International League's single-season saves record.
Albaladejo worked quickly striking out two batters and getting another to fly out to right to take sole possession of the record with 39 saves.
Jason Hirsh picked up the win for the Yankees, improving his record on the season to 9-7. The righty tossed five innings of two-run ball, allowing four hits and four walks while striking out two batters. Hirsh has now won his last four decisions.
The Yankees will next travel to Columbus to start a four-game series with the Clippers. First pitch for Wednesday's game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
