Peacock takes no-hitter into seventh

Sens fall short despite dominating start, Burgess' two homers
August 18, 2010
The bizarre beginning to Brad Peacock's Double-A career took another odd twist Tuesday.

The Harrisburg starter allowed one hit -- a seventh-inning single by Erie's Brandon Jones -- and struck out eight over seven scoreless frames, but didn't get a decision as the Senators fell to the SeaWolves, 4-3, in 10 innings.

"He was outstanding," Harrisburg manager Randy Knorr told the Harrisburg Patriot-News. "The last couple of starts prior, his fastball was a little off. [Pitching coach] Randy [Tomlin] and Brad worked in the bullpen on a few things, and they got his head on track."

In his Double-A debut July 28, Peacock allowed two hits over seven scoreless innings, but didn't factor in the decision as the Senators fell to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 1-0.

The Nationals prospect gave up five runs on seven hits over five frames in his following start, but picked up the victory as Harrisburg beat Binghamton, 8-6, on Aug. 3.

Peacock issued a walk to Eric Jones in the first inning Tuesday, but went on to retire 14 in a row before giving Alden Carrithers a free pass in the sixth.

Peacock found himself in a jam in the seventh after yielding the hit to Jones and walking Kody Kaiser. The right-hander was beaned by Bryan Pounds' line drive, but tossed to Stephen Lombardozzi for the force at second.

The Florida native was 4-9 with a 4.44 ERA over nine starts with Class A Advanced Potomac before his promotion to the Eastern League in late July. Peacock is 1-1 with a 4.63 ERA and has held opponents to a .222 average since joining Harrisburg.

Michael Burgess hit a pair of solo home runs in his Double-A debut for the Senators (63-58).
