That Chad Pinder Sure Is A Handful

Pinder leads 'Hounds in 9-1 pounding of Missions

... of runs batted in, that is. The RockHounds shortstop continued his remarkable hot streak at the plate, extending his hit streak to 18 games with a 4-for-5 night that included a double, a three-run home run and five RBI (see additional details, below).

The RockHounds leading, 2-1, entering the last of the second, exploded for six runs (three on Pinder's 10th home run of the season) to break the game open. Only one run was scored the rest of the way, as the 'Hounds regained the top spot in the Texas League South (see below).

Dillon Overton went five innings for the win, backed by scoreless innings from a quartet of relievers (Tucker Healy, Omar Duran, Seth Frankoff and Ryan Dull) and a 16-hit attack in which Chad Oberacker (double, two runs) and Rangel Ravelo (double, two runs, RBI) both went 3-for-5. 


The RockHounds

… are 18-11 in the second half and 53-46 overall (again matching a high-water mark for 2015 at seven games over .500) … lead the (four-game) series with San Antonio 2-games-to-1 ... are 17-10 in the season series with the Missions (10-5 at home and 7-5 at Nelson Wolff Stadium) … are 31-18 at Security Bank Ballpark and 22-28 on the road … are 34-29 vs. the South Division and 19-17 vs. the North.

-     Texas League South: The RockHounds regained the top spot in the Texas League South, now a half-game ahead of Frisco (17-11) following the RoughRiders' 7-6 loss (in 10 innings) at home to Corpus Christi. The first half champion Hooks (15-14) trail the RockHounds by three games with San Antonio (11-18) now seven games out.       


Kibbles & Bits

STAT OF THE DAY: The first three games of the series have been blowouts. The RockHounds shut out San Antonio Thursday (7-0) and the Missions gained a measure of revenge with a 7-1 win Friday night. With Saturday's 9-1 'Hounds victory, the winning teams have put together a combined margin of victory totaling 23-2.   

 

-     Chad Pinder

...  has matched the Texas League's longest hit streak in Texas League (Mike Ohlman of Springfield hit in 18 straight from May 26-June 21). In the 18-gamer, Chad is hitting .403 (31-for-77).  

... is now hitting .319 for the season, second in the league. Balbino Fuenmayor (who opened the year with NW Arkansas and is now with Triple-A Omaha) his .354 in 73 games but will not have enough plate appearances to qualify, leaving a wide-open race for the Texas League batting title (with 41 games still to play). 

... took over the league lead in RBI with 60 (Arkansas' Brian Hernandez is second with 58). 

... has been remarkably consistent over the last two-plus months. He is hitting .354 in his last 38 games and .348 going back 56 games. 

 

-     Colin Walsh (1-for-5, run) extended his hit streak to 13 games (20-for-48, .417) and has reached base in 15 straight. 

-     Chad Oberacker (3-for-5, double, two runs) is 9-for-25 (.360) in his last six games, with three doubles and a triple (slugging .560).
