Nationals Infielder Dan Uggla and Outfielder Tyler Moore to Rehab in Potomac

10-Year Veteran Uggla to Continue Rehab Stint While Moore will make First Appearance
August 25, 2015

Woodbridge, VA--The Washington Nationals have announced today that Major League baseball veteran infielder Dan Uggla and outfielder Tyler Moore have been sent to the Potomac Nationals on a rehabilitation assignment.

Uggla, placed on the disabled list on August 8th with back spasms, has appeared in 56 games with the Nationals, hitting .110 with 21 hits in 110 at-bats. He's plated nine runs and added four doubles, two triples, a home run and driven in 14 RBIs. The 10-year MLB veteran will continue his rehab stint after having already appeared with the Class-A Hagerstown Suns in one game and the Double-A Harrisburg Senators for three contests. The former 11th round draft pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001 has gone 3-for-12 with three runs, a home run, four RBIs, two walks and two strikeouts over the course of his rehab stint thus far.

In ten years on the diamond, Uggla has suited for four teams, including briefly for the 2014 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants. The Nationals inked him to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training heading into the 2015 season. In his career, Uggla has hit .242 (1,148-for-4,749) with 238 doubles, 18 triples, 234 home runs and 704 RBIs.

Moore, a 2008 16th round draft pick by the Washington Nationals was placed on the disabled list on August 21st retroactive to August 19th with a left ankle sprain and will make his first rehab appearance in Potomac in 2015. At the big league level this season he's appeared in 79 games, hitting .200 (30-for-150) with nine runs, ten doubles, four home runs, 22 RBIs and ten walks.

The 6'2", 220-pound righty outfielder is in his fourth year in the big leagues and back in 2010 as a member of the Potomac Nationals took the Carolina League by storm, earning MVP honors in the league and helping guide the Nationals to the Mills Cup Championship that year.

Moore won four Player of the Week awards over a span of six weeks in the season's second half, a period during which he went on an offensive barrage for the ages. In the 36 games from July 15th to August 22nd, Moore mashed 18 home runs and drove in 54. He also knocked 16 doubles and scored 39 runs. Over that stretch, Moore slugged at a .929 clip and posted an eye-popping 1.400 OPS.

Moore is just the second player in Potomac history to be named the League MVP (Troy Farnsworth, 2000) and he wrapped up his epic 2010 campaign hitting .269 in 129 games (135-for-502). He scored 78 runs, swatted 31 home runs and drove in a 111, just two RBIs shy of the club record set by Farnsworth (113). He walked 40 times and had an OPS of .873 in that record setting year.

The Brandon, Mississippi native also led the circuit in doubles (43), extra-base hits with (75), total bases (264) and HR/AB ratio (he hit a homer in every 16.83 at-bats). He is first among active players in slugging percentage at .541, and trailed only Eric Hosmer, also in the big leagues, who slugged at .545.

The Washington Nationals have not announced a time table for either Uggla or Moore's rehab stints.
