Coaching Staff Set for 2016

Three new coaches coming to Quakes
January 14, 2016

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - After naming all their minor league Managers less than a month ago, the Los Angeles Dodgers have finalized the coaching staff for the 2016 Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, adding more than 20 years of major league playing experience to this year's staff.

Joining first-year Manager Drew Saylor will be Hitting Coach Jay Gibbons, Pitching Coach Kip Wells and Assistant Coach Rafael Ozuna, with Ozuna being the only returning staffer to Rancho Cucamonga.

Gibbons, a former Dodger, enters his second year as a Hitting Coach, after spending last season with the Great Lakes Loons of the Midwest League. The Lakewood, California native appeared in 840 games over nine major league seasons. In addition to the Dodgers, he played for the Baltimore Orioles, where he smacked 121 of his 127 career home runs. Gibbons was originally drafted by Toronto in the 14th round of the 1998 draft.

A former Chicago White Sox first-rounder (16th overall) in the 1998 draft, Wells played for nine different teams over 12 years in the big leagues, posting a 69-103 record with a 4.71 ERA. The 2016 season will not only be Wells' first with the Dodgers, but will be his first in professional coaching.

The only returning member from last year's Championship club, Ozuna enters his second season with the Quakes as an Assistant Coach. A former middle-infielder from the Dominican Republic, Ozuna spent two seasons in the Dodgers' system back in 1995 and 1996. This will be Ozuna's fifth year as a coach with the Dodgers.

The Quakes will open defense of their Cal League Title on Thursday, April 7th, 2016, as they host the Lake Elsinore Storm. Ticket packages are currently available online at rcquakes.com or by calling (909) 481-5000. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field very soon…GO Quakes!
