PawSox to Improve McCoy's Red Barbeque Area in 2016, Including a New PawSox Picnic Pavilion
The Pawtucket Red Sox will enhance one of McCoy Stadium's most popular areas, the First-Base "Red Barbeque" in 2016. The club will also upgrade the Left-Field Terrace, where broadcasters Josh Maurer and Will Flemming will host their pre-game radio show.
The Red Barbeque, just foul of first base, will now include a "PawSox Picnic Pavilion," a new larger plaza and stage area with an expanded and relocated bar, and the return of a pair of aromatic "Big John" grills.
The Red Barbeque is the largest of three tented barbeque areas at the ballpark. It hosts hundreds of pre-game groups, who will enjoy an enhanced and unlimited buffet, including new menu items such as hamburgers, cheeseburgers, grilled hot dogs, pulled chicken, baked beans, and sausage and pepper sandwiches. The price of a barbeque ticket, which includes this enhanced and unlimited buffet, will remain the same in 2016 as it was in 2015, at $29. The barbeque area will also continue to have a cash bar, whose menu will now include mixed drinks for the first time ever.
New picnic seating and round-top tables will be added close to the field to enhance the ambiance. A new, white tent and awning are courtesy of Pawtucket-based supplier, Quality Rental.
A new concrete plaza, adorned with a "copperish" color and artistic stamp design, will lead to a stage from which the club will provide entertainment before games.
The Red Barbeque and Picnic Pavilion are open to all fans during the game as general admission areas.
The Left-Field Terrace will feature Maurer & Flemming's pre-game show live, just a few feet away from the left field foul pole. The 30-minute show airs on the PawSox Radio Network, led by flagship WHJJ-920, part of the iHeartRadio network. The hosts will welcome special guests as well as fans on the show.
New tables, new decorative fencing, and for the first time, mixed drinks, will add to the festive atmosphere of this pre-game party spot.
"In conversations with fans this offseason, the Red Barbeque Tent and Left Field Terrace were frequently identified as two popular areas that could use additional attention," said PawSox Senior Vice President/General Manager Dan Rea, who made the announcement. "We're eager to improve the fan experience in these areas in 2016."
Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien is expected to preview the 2016 McCoy Improvements in a visit set for Tuesday, April 5. Media are welcome on the tour as part of the annual PawSox Media Night at McCoy (which begins at 4 pm).
