World Series trophy coming to Troy on May 5

TROY, NY- The San Francisco Giants have announced that the World Series Trophy will make its official stop in Troy on Thursday, May 5. It will be on display from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College, home of the 2010 New York-Penn League champion Tri-City ValleyCats.

"Choosing the home of the ValleyCats was a natural fit for us," said Giants Community Relations Manager Erin Reilly. "We have visited similar venues during our tour and have found that Minor League facilities have the proven ability to accommodate large crowds and provide plenty of parking."

"The ValleyCats are delighted to have been chosen as hosts for the San Francisco Giants World Series Trophy. It is an honor for us, the City of Troy and Hudson Valley Community College. We are proud that the baseball tradition from the nineteenth century Troy Trojans to the twenty-first century San Francisco Giants is kept alive in Troy by the ValleyCats," said ValleyCats President Bill Gladstone.

Admission is free and fans may view the trophy on a first-come, first-serve basis. Fans are encouraged to arrive early. Those wishing to take photographs may do so at no charge from a designated location. Fans also have the opportunity to have a professional photo taken with the trophy, and may purchase prints through a service provided by the Giants.

The stop in Troy is part of a public tour the team launched to celebrate its first World Series championship since 1954, and the first since moving from New York City to San Francisco. The franchise originally began in Troy, competing as the Troy Trojans from 1879-1882. The Troy Record helped bring awareness to the team's roots after the Giants beat the Texas Rangers in six games to win the 2010 World Series.

"The City of Troy's place in professional baseball history is linked to the early National League and the modern day San Francisco Giants. We are grateful to the Giants organization for paying tribute to baseball history by bringing this coveted symbol of baseball to Troy," said Troy Mayor Harry Tutunjian.

More details on the visit will be released as they become available. Following the display at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, the trophy will head to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.
