Sky Sox Fall 3-0 In Rain-Shortened Affair

Sky Sox winning streak snapped in five inning loss in New Orleans.
June 4, 2016

In a rain-shortened affair, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox began their eight game road trip with a 3-0 loss to the New Orleans Zephyrs on Saturday night at Zephyr Park. The loss puts an end to the Sky Sox five game winning streak.

After a rain delay of nearly two hours in the bottom of the fifth, the game was called because of rain, giving New Orleans the win.

In the first, the Zephyrs got on the board early against Sky Sox starter Taylor Jungmann (1-3, 9.67). Destin Hood scored Aaron Nola with a single to left before Jungmann got through the rest of the frame.

The Zephyrs increased their lead in the fourth off Jungmann on a bases loaded single from Adrian Nieto that scored Hood and Tomas Telis to increase the lead to 3-0 New Orleans.

Jungmann was pulled from the game after that hit. He pitched three and two thirds innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits while striking out three. He suffered his third loss of the season.

Sky Sox reliever Jaye Chapman came in and got the final out of the fourth.

New Orleans starter Paul Clemens pitched a complete game five inning shutout, allowing two Sky Sox hits while striking out five to earn his fifth win of the year.

In the bottom of the fifth, leadoff hitter Kenny Wilson walked off Chapman to start the frame, but that would prove to be the end of the action.

The tarp was brought out onto the field and the rain ultimately forced an end to the game.

Garin Cecchini and Orlando Arcia recorded the hits for the Sky Sox.

Game two of the series is a matinee between the Sky Sox and Zephyrs tomorrow afternoon. Jorge Lopez (1-3, 6.20) is scheduled to get the start for the Sky Sox. First pitch at Zephyr Park is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. MDT.
