Trea Turner, Brian Goodwin named All-Stars

Goodwin and Turner will start for I.L. squad
June 29, 2016

The Syracuse Chiefs are pleased to announce the selections of shortstop Trea Turner and outfielder Brian Goodwin to the International League All-Star Game. Both Turner and Goodwin have been named as starters for the I.L. in the annual game, to be held Wednesday, July 13th at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte at 7 p.m. This marks the first Triple-A All-Star selection for each player.

22-year-old Trea Turner ranks among the League leaders in numerous offensive categories: runs (50, 1st place), triples (seven, 1st), stolen bases (22, 2nd), total bases (132, fourth), hits (86, tied for fourth), extra-base hits (29, fifth), batting average (.299, seventh) and on-base percentage (.372, ninth). Turner is in his second year with the Chiefs, with whom he's played shortstop, second base and center field. Turner, in his third professional season, was named a Mid-Season All-Star last season with Double-A San Antonio and was a Futures Game selection to the U.S. team. He went 3 for 3 with a double and a walk in his only Major-League start this year for Washington.

25-year-old Brian Goodwin was named to his first All-Star team. In 75 games, Goodwin has hit .288 with a .356 on-base percentage and .434 slugging percentage - all of which rank second only to Turner among qualified Chiefs players. The left-handed batter has slugged 17 doubles, one triple and seven home runs, driven in 41 runs, walked 28 times and stolen 10 bases in 12 tries. With runners in scoring position, Goodwin has hit .359 (28-78), including 6 for 9 with a grand slam with the bases loaded.

The Chiefs and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders close a three-game series tonight at 6:35 p.m. on Pride Night. Tickets are available at syracusechiefs.com, by calling 474-7833 or in person at the NBT Bank Stadium ticket office.
