Sean Brady Wins Pitcher of the Week

Left-hander claims award after pair of wins and 0.69 ERA in two starts
July 5, 2016

Sean Brady became the fourth Hillcat to win a Carolina League Player of the Week Award, joining Mike PapiJulian Merryweather, and Yu-Cheng Chang. Brady made two starts this past week and combined to throw 13 innings while earning two wins.

The lefty made his first start after the All-Star break June 28 at Wilmington. He tossed seven shutout innings and only allowed two hits and one walk in the game. After surrendering a leadoff triple, he retired 16 consecutive batters and finished with seven strikeouts. He joined David Speer and Trevor Frank to combine for the 'Cats eighth shutout of the season.

Brady picked up his second win of the week July 3 at Carolina. He scattered four hits in his six innings of work. The Florida native only allowed one run, which came from a solo home run in the fourth inning. The Hillcats needed a strong performance from the pitching staff, as they squeaked out a 2-1 win in the series finale at Five County Stadium.

Brady's ERA and WHIP for the week were minuscule at 0.69 and 0.76, respectively. The southpaw has won five of his last six starts and is now 7-3 with an ERA of 4.68. He has five quality starts and 60 strikeouts this season. Brady has gone seven innings in four different starts and has not allowed a run in three of those four contests.

Lynchburg continues its homestand Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. with a game against Frederick. Brady is scheduled to make his next start Friday against Salem at City Stadium.
