Cougars Extend With Diamondbacks Through 2018

Organization Signs Two Year Player Development Contract Extension
July 7, 2016

GENEVA, Ill. - The Arizona Diamondbacks and Kane County Cougars organizations have announced a player development contract extension through the 2018 season. The Cougars began their association with the D-backs prior to the 2015 season and the relationship has led the Cougars to an 84-win season last year, including a Western Division second-half championship thanks in part to their franchise record 48 wins in the second half of the season as well as an overall record thus far of 121-101 (.545 winning percentage).

"Today's announcement is great news for our entire organization as well as our loyal fans," said Cougars owner, Dr. Bob Froehlich. "We have developed a wonderful relationship with the D-backs organization over the past two seasons which has helped to maintain both a high on-field product as well as our commitment to community involvement."

"The Arizona Diamondbacks are excited to extend our relationship with the Kane County Cougars," said D-backs Sr. Vice President of Baseball Operations, De Jon Watson. "We value the relationship we have with the organization and are thankful for the first-class facility and hospitality that the fans in Geneva provide our players. We look forward to working with the outstanding ownership group in Kane County for many years to come."

Notable Cougars alumni who have played with Arizona include Cliff Pennington ('05 Cougar), Trevor Cahill ('07), Bo Schultz ('10), Zack Godley ('14) and most recently Zac Curtis ('15). The first former Cougar to reach the Majors since the organization's affiliation with Arizona, Curtis posted 33 saves for the Cougars last season which set a new single-season franchise record. Multiple top D-backs prospects have suited up for the Cougars the past two seasons including Colin Bray, Sergio Alcantara, Cody Reed (2nd round, 2014) and Alex Young (2nd round, 2015).

"We are thankful to the D-backs for their commitment to our organization," said Cougars Vice President and General Manager, Curtis Haug. "We've created some great relationships over the past two years and we look forward to bigger and better things for years to come."
