Hooks '76 FauxBack July 28-30
CORPUS CHRISTI - OK, so time travel may not be possible.
But it sure is fun to pretend.
Let's face it: young and old alike get caught up in the "what if" game. We can't really revisit the past, but do lament less-than-stellar personal decision-making.
Sometimes, we just wish circumstances beyond our control had been different. It's human nature.
On Thursday, July 28, the Corpus Christi Hooks transform Whataburger Field back to 1976.
But wait… that's 29 years before Whataburger Field and the Hooks came online.
Correct. That's why we're calling it 1976 FauxBack Night.
When the Hooks battle the Midland RockHounds at 7:05, fans will find our hometown team dressed in 1976-style uniforms, music played over the public address system dating from our nation's bicentennial year or earlier, PA announcer Layne Berman with a less-spirited approach to his calls, and video board graphics sporting a mid-70s look.
"Some other clubs in Minor League Baseball have presented FauxBack Nights," Hooks Director of Ballpark Entertainment JD Davis explained, "and we came out of our offseason planning convinced one would work well here. Our fans seem to enjoy getting into the spirit of various theme nights, and we thought, 'why not the Spirit of '76?'"
Thursday's celebration spills over into Friday, July 29 and Saturday the 30th, when the Hooks return to play in their '76 togs. Patrons are encouraged to dress in '70s style all three nights, and those in attendance at Saturday's game have the opportunity to bid on the game-worn jerseys in a silent auction benefiting Hooks Help.
Those who want a permanent keepsake of the three-day observance have their pick of six FauxBack t-shirts through official team store Hook, Line & Sinker. There are four adult styles ranging from $21.65 to $27.06 and two youth styles at $16.24 (tax included).
Two t-shirt styles are available at hooks.milbstore.com
All quantities are limited.
For fans who want to look like a player, Hooks 1976 FauxBack replica jerseys are available at Hook, Line & Sinker for both adults ($86.60) and youth ($54.13).
