Lincecum To Rejoin Bees
Salt Lake City, Utah ( August 9, 2016) - The Los Angeles Angels announced today that four-time All-Star, three-time World Series Champion and two-time National League Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum will rejoin the Bees. Lincecum comes to Salt Lake after nine starts with the Los Angeles Angels. The former two-time Cy Young winner posted a 2.65 ERA, striking out 19 in three starts for Salt Lake this season.
"Tim Lincecum is arguably the highest profile player to play for the Bees," said Marc Amicone, General Manager of the Salt Lake Bees. "We welcome him to Salt Lake City, hope for a successful climb back to the Big Leagues and encourage Bees fans to come out to Smith's Ballpark to watch a baseball superstar in person."
Lincecum is one of the most decorated pitchers in MLB history. He was named a National League All-Star in 2008, '09, '10, and '11. He was also named the National League Cy Young Award winner in 2008 and 2009. Lincecum played eight seasons with the San Francisco Giants and won three World Series rings in the process.
Lincecum was released by the San Francisco Giants last season after undergoing season-ending hip surgery early last September and spent the offseason recovering from the procedure. Lincecum auditioned in front of over 20 teams on May 6, 2016 and was signed by the Angels on May 19, 2016.
In addition to Lincecum's appearance, the Bees homestand includes Daddy Daughter Date Night with fireworks on Saturday, August 13, and Salt Lake Buzz Throwback night featuring a David Ortiz bobblehead giveaway on Friday, August 19.
The Bees will finish up their four-game series against the Reno Aces Wednesday, August 10th at 8:05 p.m. before starting an eight-game set with the Round Rock Express and New Orleans Zephyrs. Tickets are available for all games during the homestand at SmithsTix locations, the Smith's Ballpark box office, by calling 801-325-BEES (2337) or online at slbees.com.
