Hace 28 años Piratas se coronó por primera vez
La familia de los Pérez Avellá estuvo de 1981 a 1983 en tierras campechanas y don Jaime, una persona apasionada y magnate del béisbol, supo construir grandes equipos en varios años que estuvo como dirigente en el circuito beisbolero.
En su paso por la Liga Mexicana, fue el guía para conquistar tres banderines: en 1979 con los Ángeles de Puebla, 1983 con los Piratas de Campeche y en 1986 con los Ángeles Negros de Puebla.
El prestigio que tenían los Pérez Avellá era extraordinario y mucha gente no podían creer que a principios de 1981 se mudaran de Puebla a Campeche, para ser los nuevos dirigentes de la novena peninsular por el tiempo de un trienio.
Hace 28 años los Piratas de Campeche, lograron su primer título en la Liga Mexicana de Béisbol, el lunes 12 de septiembre de 1983, los filibusteros derrotaron en un séptimo y decisivo encuentro a los ahora desaparecidos Indios de Ciudad Juárez, con un score de 14-6.
El encuentro se realizó en el parque de pelota Cruz Blanca de la fronteriza Ciudad Juárez.
La novena de Pancho Villa era dirigida por José "Zacatillo" Guerrero.
La novena peninsular ya cuenta en su haber con una rica historia donde han sumado 32 temporadas en la LMB de manera consecutiva desde que llegaron en 1980 hasta el recién finalizado calendario del 2011.
Llevan dos banderines: 1983 y 2004. El primero bajo la custodia administrativa del Lic. Vicente Pérez Avellá y hace siete años teniendo como presidente al Ing. Gabriel Escalante Castillo.
Retornando al baúl de los recuerdos, los Piratas de Campeche, comandados por Francisco "Paquín" Estrada, obtuvieron el título de manera fácil y por medio de la paliza. En la parte alta de la octava entrada ganaban a la tribu, 14-0.
En la octava baja los chihuahuenses timbraron cuatro veces y en la salida del cotejo sumaron dos más, para un definitivo 14-6.
Por su parte la nave bucanera en la primera entrada tenía la pizarra 3-0.
En la segunda alta, 5-0
En el primer tercio del juego, 8-0.
Para la cuarta entrada: 10-0.
Y en el octavo inning, 14-0.
El veracruzano Albino Díaz conectó jonrón solitario en el primer inning y el dominicano Ramón Lora en la segunda dio cuadrangular de dos anotaciones.

La ofensiva del Campeche regó 15 neutrales, el bat más encendido ese día fue del nayarita Jorge Luis "Zamorita" Hernández, quién se fue de 4-4.
Los norteños utilizaron a seis lanzadores: el abridor y perdedor Ramón Serna, Porfirio Gutiérrez, Francisco Montenegro, el estadounidense Matt Dorin, Eduardo Silva y Nicolás Montaño.
La serpentina de los Piratas estuvo respaldada precisamente por el nativo de Juárez, el derecho Jaime Orozco, en 7 entradas y dos tercios con cuatro registros, finalizó el dominicano Julio César Divison en un capítulo y un tercio con dos carreras.
El Jugador más Valioso fue el veracruzano Albino Díaz, en los siete juegos, promedió .481(27-13) un jonrón y nueve producidas, su compañero el "Zamorita" Hernández, terminó en el segundo lugar de bateo con .385 el tercer mejor bateador de la serie final fue un jugador de Ciudad Juárez, Guadalupe Valle con .368.
Los mejores pitchers en efectividad: Teo Higuera de los Indios con 0.59 le siguio Herminio Domínguez con 1.80 y Matt Dorin 3.29 de los fronterizos.
