Charlotte Knights Manager Joe McEwing Promoted
Joe McEwing to Join New White Sox Staff
FORT MILL, S.C. - The Charlotte Knights today confirmed that Joe McEwing has been promoted to third base coach for the Chicago White Sox. Joe will be part of new White Sox manager Robin Ventura’s staff.
During the 2011 season, Joe led the Charlotte Knights to a record of 69-74. Joe was with the Knights in 2008 serving as the team's hitting coach. McEwing managed the Winston-Salem Dash for two seasons in 2009 and 2010 and in 2011 he was promoted from Winston-Salem and named the Knights manager replacing Chris Chambliss. His combined managerial record in the minors is 223-197.
Under Joe’s leadership this season the Charlotte Knights had 14 players promoted to the White Sox. Players appearing in the most games for the White Sox were Dayan Viciedo, Tyler Flowers, and Alejandro De Aza. Most notably, Alejandro De Aza batted .329 for the White Sox in 54 games and also won the International League Batting title. Additionally, MiLB awarded Jordan Danks a Rawlings Gold Glove for his excellent defense in center field
“Joe did a great job managing our team last year and continuing to develop talent in the White Sox farm system. He has been great to work with and very supportive of our goals on and off the field. We will miss him in Charlotte next year, but wish him all the best as he moves on to Chicago”, said Dan Rajkowski, Vice President and General Manager of the Charlotte Knights.
Joe who is currently managing the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League said, “I enjoyed my time in Charlotte and appreciate the opportunity I will have next season in Chicago. I wish the Knights much success.”
