Juice the Moose Arrives
Currently, Juice is awaiting a flight from Phoenix, Arizona where he was hanging out at the Oakland A's spring training facility trying to rehab a sore antler. Oakland A's Director of Player Development Keith Lieppman spoke with RockHounds General Manager Monty Hoppel this past week and informed him of Juice's location and that he would be getting on a flight back to Citibank Ballpark as soon as possible.
"We were informed by the Oakland A's that Juice had been spending time with trainers and doctors in Arizona," noted Hoppel. "I think many of our fans will also be excited to know that Juice stopped off in Hollywood during his disappearance and actually received a special makeover."
The new makeover to Juice will actually be the fourth time in 18 years that the Permian Basin's longest running mascot has received an upgrade. "Juice the Moose has been a part of our franchise and the Permian Basin for 18 years now," said Hoppel. "Juice began as our mascot in 1990 when we played at Christensen Stadium as the Midland Angels, and we feel like it just isn't quite summer without an oversized moose and dog running about the ballpark."
Not many things have endured time like Juice the Moose. As the Permian Basin has upgraded Loop 250, built the Scharbauer Sports Complex and added numerous new businesses while revamping schools, companies and churches......Juice the Moose has had staying power. Even after the move to Citibank Ballpark in 2002 and the addition of Rocky the RockHound, residents and fans still clamored for Juice to remain a part of the franchise.
July 12, 2007 will forever be known to the RockHounds franchise as Juice the Moose Day. The first 500 fans through the gates on Thursday will receive a special photo of Juice. Follow Juice's complete trek by going online to midlandrockhounds.org.
