Series Preview: Portland Sea Dogs
The Binghamton Mets return home from a week-long roadtrip to start a seven-game homestand. They welcome in the Portland Sea Dogs for four games before hosting the New Hampshire Cats for a three-game series. The series against the Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, starts tonight at 6:35 PM.
B-Mets Previous Series (@ New Hampshire, 1-2): The B-Mets made their first trip to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium and dropped two of three games. Binghamton stranded nine men and went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position in a 2-1 loss on Monday night. The B-Mets turned the tables on Tuesday night pounding out 14 hits, including seven for extra bases, in a 10-6 win. Binghamton was limited to two hits in a 2-0 loss in the rubber match last night.
Portland Previous Series (vs. New Britain, 1-2): The Sea Dogs arrive in Binghamton after losing two of three to the New Britain Rock Cats. The Sea Dogs dropped a heart-breaker on Monday night. The Rock Cats scored three in the ninth to force extras and plated five in the 11th to hand Portland a 10-5 loss. Chris Colabello launched two home runs to lead New Britain to a 6-3 win on Tuesday night. Portland ended the homestand with a thrilling win yesterday afternoon. The Sea Dogs scored two runs in the ninth inning, capped by Ronald Bermudez's RBI single, to win in walk-off fashion 2-1.
B-Mets Briefing: The B-Mets are hitting .229 as a team, which puts them last in the Eastern League. Their 43 runs scored are the fourth-fewest in the league. On the pitching side, the B-Mets staff is fourth in the league with a 2.94 ERA. B-Mets pitchers have collected 110 strikeouts, the most for any team in the league. Defensively, the B-Mets have made eight errors, tied for eighth-most in the league.
Portland Briefing: The Sea Dogs are hitting .242 as a team, which puts them eighth in the league. They have scored 44 runs, the fifth-fewest out of Eastern League teams. At the plate, they have struck out 115 times, the most for any team in the league. Their staff has struggled early in the year, amassing a 5.01 ERA, tied for eleventh in the league. B-Mets Against the Sea Dogs (2-2): The B-Mets split a four-game series against the Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field last weekend. Collin McHugh collected six strikeouts in a win last Thursday night. The Sea Dogs took the middle two games before Binghamton capped the series with a victory on Sunday afternoon. The B-Mets went 5-5 versus the Sea Dogs at NYSEG Stadium last year.
