Kivlehan tabbed Northwest MVP
Three months after he was selected Big East Conference Player of the Year, the Mariners prospect on Wednesday was named Northwest League MVP.
Kivlehan is among the league leaders in six offensive categories. He shares the top spot with 11 homers, ranks second with 129 total bases and is third with 46 RBIs, a .487 slugging percentage, 27 extra-base hits and 42 runs scored. He's also fifth with a .294 batting average.
The 22-year-old Rutgers University product is one of three AquaSox on the postseason All-Star team, joining catcher Mike Zunino and Taylor Ard, who was selected at both first base and designated hitter.
Three members of the Vancouver Canadians won postseason accolades, with Clayton McCullough earning Manager of the Year honors and shortstop Jorge Flores and right-hander Javier Avendano being named All-Stars.
Boise Hawks second baseman Gioskar Amaya completes the infield, while Tri-City Dust Devils teammates Francisco Sosa and Kyle Von Tungeln flank Royce Bolinger of the Spokane Indians in the outfield.
Yakima Bears left-hander Alexander Carreras is the other All-Star starting pitcher, while southpaw Christopher Nunn and right-hander Roman Madrid -- both of the Eugene Emeralds -- comprise the bullpen.
