MYERS RECEIVES MULTIPLE MiLBY NOMINATIONS
Myers' spectacular season garnered a nomination for Offensive Player of the Year in the minors, while one of his 37 homers is up for Home Run of the Year. Myers finished a dinger shy of 26-year-old Darin Ruf (Double-A Reading; Philadelphia Phillies) for the most in the minors. Among them was the nominated shot, a grand slam off of big leaguer Roy Oswalt on June 7. The blast gave his Triple-A Omaha team the lead en route to a 7-2 win.
The 21-year-old hit .346 in 58 games for Wilmington in 2010 as a catcher/DH. After an injury-riddled 2011 campaign, he opened 2012 as a repeater with Double-A Northwest Arkansas and batted .343 with 13 home runs and 30 RBIs in 35 games. Then came a promotion to Triple-A Omaha in mid-May, and more success. For the Storm Chasers, Myers hit .304 (118-for-388) with 15 doubles, five triples, 24 home runs and 79 RBIs in 99 regular-season games.
The Royals' third-round selection in 2009 collected two hits and drove in three runs for the U.S. squad at the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game in Kansas City on July 8 and then three days later was selected the "Star of Stars" for the Pacific Coast League in the Triple-A All-Star Game after recording two hits, including a double with an RBI and a run scored. At the end of the 2012 season, he was named to the 12-member All-Pacific Coast League squad along with Omaha Player of the Year honors.
