Where Are They Now: Mike Costanzo
Corner infielder Mike Costanzo was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the second round of the 2005 First Year Player Draft. He spent the first three seasons of his career in the Phillies' organization, advancing as high as Double-A Reading.
In November 2007, he was briefly traded to the Houston Astros before again being traded in December to the Orioles as part of the deal that sent Miguel Tejada to Houston. The Philadelphia native spent two years with the Orioles, splitting time between Triple-A Norfolk and Bowie. In 60 games with the Baysox in 2009, Costanzo batted .201 with 12 doubles and 29 RBI.
The Orioles released Costanzo before the start of the 2010 season and after spending a month with Camden of the Atlantic League, he was signed by the Cincinnati Reds in mid-May. Prior to the 2012 season, Costanzo had not advanced higher than Triple-A Louisville as a member of the Reds organization.
Costanzo began the 2012 season with Double-A Pensacola, where he played in 11 games before a promotion to Louisville. After a brief stint with Louisville, Costanzo was promoted to Cincinnati where he made his Major League debut May 13. Costanzo appeared in a total of 17 games with the Reds before finishing the season back at the Triple-A level, where he batted .262 with 18 doubles and 38 RBI in 96 games.
