Moore named SAL Player of the Week
(Bowling Green, KY) - The South Atlantic League announced Monday that Hot Rods left-hander Matt Moore has been named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 1-June 7. The distinction is the first honor bestowed upon a Hot Rods player in the 2009 season.
Moore's selection was an easy one after his supreme effort on Saturday, June 6, in Asheville, NC. Facing the Tourists, Moore was at his best, throwing seven innings of no-hit ball. He added a career-high 12 strikeouts against just two walks during his seven shut-out frames. It was the fifth time in his career, the first in 2009, that Moore did not allow a hit during a start. The no-hit effort was the first of its kind for the Hot Rods, eventually earning Moore a victory in a 10-2 Hot Rods triumph.
For the week, Moore made two starts, throwing 11 innings without allowing an earned run. He added 18 strikeouts, moving into fourth place in the SAL with 69 K's on the season. He also walked just three batters, tying a season-low over a two-game span. The New Mexico native is now 3-2 with a 3.30 ERA for the year.
