Homers Hurt 66ers at the Hangar
Lancaster, CA - After taking the first two games of their road series in Lancaster, the Inland Empire 66ers (51-42, 14-9) were undone by four home runs from the Lancaster JetHawks (55-38, 16-7) who avoided a 66ers sweep with a 10-3 victory.
Jake Boyd seemed to be in good shape Friday night when he retired the JetHawks in order in the first, including a pair of strikeouts. But the success was short lived with Lancaster scoring four runs in the 2nd thanks to three JetHawk homers. Inland Empire chipped away with Brian Hernandez extending his hit streak to eight games with an RBI single in the 4th, and Alex Yarbrough added an RBI in the 5th to make it 4-2.
However, this was a night where the JetHawks would not be denied. They tallied four more runs in the 5th inning, including two on M.P. Cokinos second home run of the contest to stretch their lead to six, before finishing the 66ers for a 10-3 win.
Zach Borenstein and Michael Snyder were both able to extend their hit streaks Friday. Borenstein did so with an 8th inning single, and Michael Snyder used his 4th triple of the season to take his hit streak to 11 games. Michael Johnson also came up with a strong effort from the bullpen, throwing two shutout innings against the formidable JetHawks offense.
Inland Empire continues the road trip Saturday from Visalia where they will open the series with California League All Star Mark Sappington on the mound. The 66ers return home on July 17th to begin a six game home stand which will include a Mark Trumbo Bobblehead Giveaway on Saturday, July 20th.
