San Jose Giants to Host National Spirit of '45 Celebration

SAN JOSE, CA- On Sunday, August 11, the San Jose Giants will host National Spirit of '45 Night at Municipal Stadium. The evening will be part of that day's national "Tribute" honoring the legacy of service of the men and women who were the "ordinary heroes" of the WWII generation. First pitch for the game is scheduled for 6:00 PM as the Giants will host the Bakersfield Blaze and Postgame Fireworks will follow the final out courtesy of Spirit of '45. "After being the first team in Minor League Baseball to host this event last year, the San Jose Giants are excited to partner with Spirit of '45 for the second straight season," said Ainslie Walter, San Jose Giants Vice President of Sales. "Last year's event was a tremendous success and we look forward to another night of honoring the WWII generation and those who sacrificed for their country."

Baseball teams around the country will join the San Jose Giants on August 11 in celebrating National Spirit of '45 Day; reminding their fans how professional baseball helped keep up the nation's morale during wartime and of the more than 4,500 ballplayers who put down their bats and gloves to serve their country. The Sunday evening ballgame will be filled with tributes, including a moment of silence, live performance of God Bless America during the 7th inning stretch and reenactment of the celebration that occurred with the end of World War II.

"The Spirit of '45 is proud to renew its partnership with the San Jose Giants to honor the WWII generation," said Robert Corpus, National Spirit of '45 Youth Director. "Each year we strive to keep the Spirit of '45 alive across the country and we want to encourage fans to come out to Municipal Stadium and take part in this national tribute."

The San Jose Giants will return home for a three game series against the Bakersfield Blaze on Friday, August 9. On Friday, the team will host the seventh annual A Giant Luau, sponsored by Alaska Airlines. The evening will be full of Hawaiian festivities ranging from hula dancers and island music to a special pig roasting ceremony in Turkey Mike's BBQ. In addition, one lucky fan will walk away with a trip for two to Hawaii courtesy of Alaska Airlines.
