Legends drop 10-inning game to Savannah
Savannah took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Sean Ratliff's double scored Rafael Fernandez, who had walked. The Legends moved in front with two runs in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded, Jorge DeLeon walked to force home a run, and Jay Austin followed with an infield single, putting the Legends ahead 2-1.
Each team scored a run in the third inning to make it 3-2 Lexington, and the Legends added three more in the fifth. Ebert Rosario reached second on an infield hit and a throwing error, and moved to third on a wild pitch. After Brian Pellegrini walked, Phil Disher singled to score Rosario. A base hit by Brandon Barnes brought in Pellegrini, and Disher later scored on an infield out by Pedro Gonzalez to give Lexington a 6-2 lead.
After each team scored a run in the sixth, Savannah put together a three-run rally in the seventh. With two outs and runners at first and second, Eric Campbell doubled home one run, and Raul Reyes followed with a triple to score two more, leaving the Sand Gnats one run down at 7-6.
Savannah tied it in the eighth. With one out, Jordany Valdespin and Rafael Fernandez singled to put runners at first and third. Josh Satin's fly to right field brought Valdespin home with the tying run.
In the 10th, back-to-back doubles with one out by Fernandez and Jefry Marte scored the go-ahead run for Savannah. Jimmy Johnson pitched the bottom of the 10th to get the save, his second. Kyle Allen (3-1), who pitched five innings in relief, got the win. Michael Hacker (0-1) was the losing pitcher. Savannah has taken the first three games of the series.
The Legends' seven runs and 13 hits were their highest totals in those categories since they scored 15 runs and had 13 hits in a 15-6 win at Augusta May 4.
The Legends close out the series and the homestand with a 10:05 a.m. game against Savannah Monday at Applebee's Park before leaving for an eight-game road trip in Charleston, S.C. and Savannah.
