LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Gwinnett Braves, in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves, have announced the naming of Brian Snitker as the club's new manager on Monday, October 14. Snitker, the Braves' Major League third base coach from 2007 to 2013, returns to the Triple-A post for the first time since 2006 when he managed the Richmond Braves.
Snitker, 57, has been a member of the Atlanta Braves organization since 1977. Following a four-year playing career, the former catcher began his coaching career as a roving instructor for the Braves in 1981. His first managerial position came in 1982 with Anderson of the Class-A South Atlantic League, and he went on to manage 17 seasons in the Braves' system through 2006. Snitker compiled a managerial record of 1,140-1,145 (.499), including stops at Advanced-A Myrtle Beach (1999-2001), Double-A Greenville (2002-04), Double-A Mississippi (2005) and Triple-A Richmond (2006). He guided Myrtle Beach to back-to-back Carolina League championships in 1999 and 2000 and was named the Carolina League Manager of the Year in both of those seasons.
In addition to his minor league coaching career, Snitker spent 11 seasons on the Braves' Major League staff. He served as the bullpen coach in 1985 and again from 1988 to 1990, then returned as the club's third base coach in 2007.
Snitker is the third manager in the history of the Gwinnett franchise, following Dave Brundage (2009-12) and Randy Ready (2013).
