Brian Slocum Optioned to Herd

May 2, 2006
The Cleveland Indians today optioned pitcher Brian Slocum to the Buffalo Bisons roster and activated pitcher C.C. Sabathia off of his Major League rehab assignment with the Herd. Pitcher Travis Foley was also optioned from Buffalo to Double-A Akron.

Slocum, 25, began the season with the Bisons and posted a 1.93ERA and one save in five outings (9.1IP, 5H, 2R, 2ER, BB, 11K). He made his first Major League stint, April 14-May 1, going 0-0 with a 7.71ERA in four relief outings with the Indians (4.2IP, 5H, 4ER, 5BB, 4K). Slocum was selected in the 2nd round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft by Cleveland.

Sabathia made one start for Buffalo, earning the win in his Bisons debut on April 27 against Syracuse. In that game, he allowed just two runs (one earned) while striking out five in five innings of work. He was with the team on Major League rehab after suffering a strained right oblique in the Cleveland Indians season opening game against the Chicago White Sox.

Foley, 23, made his Triple-A debut with the Bisons yesterday, allowing two runs in 2.1 innings of work. He returns to the Akron Aeros where he was 0-1 with a 2.20ERA in seven games to start the year (16.1IP, 16H, 4R, 4ER, 5BB, 15K).
